Alabama cities and counties are getting enough federal
stimulus money to hire 114 police officers. Vice President Joe Biden and
Attorney General Eric Holder announced the law enforcement grants for all 50
states Tuesday. The grants will employ more than 1,000 officers nationwide for
three years.
Tuscaloosa is getting more than $2 million for a dozen officers. Huntsville is getting $2.6 million to employ 15 officers. Mobile is receiving nearly $2.5 million for 20 officers. Three
cities were awarded grants for five officers.
