Weekday Mornings 7 - 9 am (CST)
Sports Radio 1420 The Tusk
Personal - I'm an Italian Florida boy.  I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida.  My full name is Vincenzo (Vin-chen-zo) Ferrara (fur-rar-rah). I'm first generation American born.  However, Italian was his first language.  I learned English in school mainly.

Education - I'm a graduate of the University of South Florida in Tampa, with a B.A. in Broadcast News.  No, I doesn't know why a school located in West-Central Florida is called "South Florida"!  I'm a graduate of Jefferson High School in Tampa, FL.

How it all started - I knew that broadcasting was my thing when I was working at a theme park in Tampa called Busch Gardens, while in college.  You know when you get on a ride and there's a guy on the mic telling you about the ride and to check your lap bars and all that?  Well, after drawing a reaction from the patrons while uttering the line (in a scary voice) "Now sit back and enjoy the STING, of the SCORPION!!!, I knew I was hooked!  The natural highs of informing and entertaining, while worked in the sports industry was a no-brainer.  I went on to be a TV Sports Anchor on a college show that aired on local cable.  After interning at WFLA-TV Ch. 8 in Tampa and WXXL XL 106.7 in Orlando, I landed my first career job 5 months after graduating from college.  New Orleans, Nawlins, The Big Easy...here comes "Vinny Vegas!"  That was my first radio name as a Midday DJ on a Top 40 station, Z-100.

Career - Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket in Dallas, Wild 98.7 and NewsTalk 99 WNOX in Knoxville (no I’m not a Vols fan!), She 100.3 in Orlando, Star 95.7 in Tampa, 970 WFLA in Tampa, Z-100 in New Orleans, Sunshine TV Network in Florida, Time Warner Cable TV in Tampa and most proudly, a trainer at a popular fast food chain!  Those uniforms rocked!  Plus, the benefits!!!  My music radio name in TN was "Vinny V." and just "Vinny" in FL.

Interesting Facts - I don't drink alcohol!  That does not mean I only drink occasionally, that means I have not had alcohol since my parents used to let us try a little at the dinner table when I was 14.  It also doesn't mean I'm a former alcoholic.  It's a choice!  That being said I still love to go out.  I've worked in bars and clubs and most of my friends drink, so I have no problem with it.  I'm a reliable designated driver for friends, family and fine females!

Favorite Sports Teams - South Florida Bulls (alma mater), Alabama Crimson Tide, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars.
The Station  - Sports Radio 1420 The Tusk was born in July 2004.  I was hired a few months later in September.  I started out doing the afternoon show in October of '04 and moved my show to mornings March 12.  I'm the Program Director, which means I work a zillion hours a week helping to make sure the station runs as smoothly as possible.  If you have any feedback on the station, feel free to send off an e-mail - vinceferrara@clearchannel.com.

Game 14 - #2 LSU vs. #8 Ole Miss (Championship Game)
LSU wins 8-2 (Ole Miss is eliminated and LSU wins the tournament title)
LSU put up a 5 spot in the 5th and Louis Coleman came in to work the final 6 innings of scoreless relief to lead the Tigers to the SEC title.  Coleman struck out the side in the 9th and only allowed 3 hits in the game.  Ole Miss is now 37-24 and awaits Monday's selection show.  LSU enters the NCAA tournament at 43-16-1 and having won an incredible 20 games in a row with all but 4 of those games coming againgst tough SEC teams.  LSU has a shot at earning a top 8 national seed.  We'll recap the weekend and the NCAA Tournament Tuesday morning on my show.  Don't forget to listen to The Sports Breakdown, weekday mornings 7 to 9 in Alabama on Sports Radio 1420 The Tusk and online worldwide at 1420TheTusk.com.  Thanks!

Game 11 - #6 Vanderbilt vs. #8 Ole Miss
Vanderbilt wins 7-4
Vandy jumped on Ole Miss early leading 7-2 after 3 and held on for the 7-4 win.  Ole Miss reliever Justin Cryer gave the Rebels a chance by holding VU scoreless and allowing only 2 hits over the final 7 innings.  Ole Miss just couldn't convert on their offensive opportunities.  Vandy forces another game tonight between these two teams, with the winner advancing to Sunday's Championship game.  Earlier in the game, Vandy and Ole Miss had some heated words after Vandy's 1st Base Coach took offense to Ole Miss Pitcher Justin Cryer's actions on the 3rd out at first and said something to him about it.  It did not escalate beyond both managers arguing with the umpires and the fans booing.  Bama has to beat LSU today twice to advance to Sunday's single game championship againgst either Vanderbilt or Ole Miss.  Robert Phares will start for Bama.  Alabama/LSU is next.  Check back for the story on that game.  Don't forget to listen to The Sports Breakdown, weekday mornings 7 to 9 in Alabama on Sports Radio 1420 The Tusk and online worldwide at 1420TheTusk.com.  Thanks!

Saturday, May 24
Game 12 - #2 LSU vs. #5 Alabama
The nations longest winning streak moved to 19 straight games as LSU came from behind to beat the Tide 12-8.  The Bama defense allowed 3 unearned runs on 3 errors and the Tide bullpen, other than Will Stroup, was hit hard.  The Tide had a 6-4 lead starting the 8th with closer Austin Graham pitching for Bama.  Here's what happened next...Clark walked, LaMahieu stuck out, Landry singled, Schimpf walked to load the bases and Hollander walked to score a run and make it 6 to 5.  Jim Wells then pulled Graham for RHP Josh Copeland to face a lefty hitter in Mitchell, even though Copeland has struggled mightily recently after left-handed hitters.  Austin didn't have his usual good control so Wells felt like he had to make the move.  Mitchell then singled to score the tieing run with the bases still loaded, the Blake Dean hit a grand slam to put LSU up by 4 and they would never look back.  It was a disappointing late inning meltdown by Bama and early errors left LSU within striking distance.  LSU is now 42-16-1 and will play in the championship.  Alabama is now 34-26 and awaits Monday's NCAA Selection Show where its expected to get a Regional bid, probably as a 3-seed.  Vandy/Ole Miss is next.  Check back for the story on that game.  Don't forget to listen to The Sports Breakdown, weekday mornings 7 to 9 in Alabama on Sports Radio 1420 The Tusk and online worldwide at 1420TheTusk.com.  Thanks!

Saturday, May 24
Game 13 - #6 Vanderbilt vs. #8 Ole Miss
Ole Miss wins 8-7 (Vanderbilt is eliminated)
Michael Guerrero homered twice (now has 4 for the tournament) to lead Ole Miss to the win 8-7 Saturday night.  This has been an improbable run to the championship game for the 8-seed that has likely not only locked up a tourny bid but perhaps even move them to a 2-seed.  Jordan Henry collected 4 hits and the Rebs had to hold on late to win it 8-7.  Vanderbilt finished at 40-20 and will await Monday's selection show.  Ole Miss improves to 37-23 and will play LSU for the SEC Tournament Championship.  Ole Miss/LSU is next.  Check back for the story on that game.  Don't forget to listen to The Sports Breakdown, weekday mornings 7 to 9 in Alabama on Sports Radio 1420 The Tusk and online worldwide at 1420TheTusk.com.  Thanks!

Game 9 - #6 Vanderbilt vs. #7 South Carolina
Vanderbilt wins 7-5 (South Carolina eliminated)
Pedro Alvarez and Andrew Giobbi hit home runs, David Macias collected 3 hits and Vandy received a strong start from Nick Christiani as the Commodores held on for a 7-5 win.  Vandy led 7-1 but SC scored 4 times in the 8th and brought up the tieing run in the 9th.  South Carolina awaits Monday's selection show at 38-21.  Vandy (39-20) will play Ole Miss at 10am on Saturday.  Alabama/Kentucky is next at Regions Park.  Del Howell or Miers Quigley will start for Bama.  Kentucky will send out their Sunday starter Greg Dombrowski who beat Bama in Lexington, has 5 wins and an ERA under 4.  Check back for the story on that game.  Don't forget to listen to The Sports Breakdown, weekday mornings 7 to 9 in Alabama on Sports Radio 1420 The Tusk and online worldwide at 1420TheTusk.com.  Thanks!

Game 10 - #4 Kentucky vs. #5 Alabama
Alabama wins 13-4 (Kentucky eliminated)
The Crimson Tide finally broke through againgst Kentucky and pounded Wildcats pitching for 13 runs on 15 hits, getting their first win in 5 tries.  CF and #9 hitter Alex Kubal hit a grand slam in the 2nd, one of his 2 hits.  Kent Matthes and Alex Avila had 3 hits.  Brandon had 4 hits in the game, the 5th time this year he's had a 4-hit game.  Del Howell recorded his first career win in only his 2nd start.  He gave Alabama a strong start, going 6 1/3 giving up 3 runs on 7 hits.  Kentucky (42-17) is out and they await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday.  Alabama (34-25) moves on to play the hottest team in the country, LSU at 1:30 on Saturday.  Bama has to beat LSU twice on Sat to advance to Sunday's single game championship againgst either Vanderbilt or Ole Miss.  No decision on a starter for Bama, as of yet.  Some possibilities for one or two games on Sat would be Miers Quigley, Robert Phraes, Will Stroup, Nathan Kilcrease or Austin Evans.  Vandy/Ole Miss is next.  Check back for the story on that game.  Don't forget to listen to The Sports Breakdown, weekday mornings 7 to 9 in Alabama on Sports Radio 1420 The Tusk and online worldwide at 1420TheTusk.com.  Thanks!

Game 6 - #1 Georgia vs. #5 Alabama
Alabama wins 5-2 (Georgia eliminated)
A great pitching performance by Alabama starter Austin Hyatt was the story in the Tide's 5-2 win over SEC regular season champion Georgia.  Hyatt threw a complete game, allowing only 2 runs and 4 hits, striking out 6.  At one point he retired 20 Bulldogs in a row.  Rutledge, Wilson and May each had 2 hits a piece.  Wilson extended his hitting streak to 13 games.  Georgia (35-21-1) is bounced from the tournament and awaits to see if they will get a top 8 national seed they are hoping for.  Alabama is 33-25 and will play the second elimination game on Friday againgst the Ole Miss/Kentucky loser.  LSU and Vanderbilt is next at Regions Park.  Check back for the story on that game.  Don't forget to listen to The Sports Breakdown, weekday mornings 7 to 9 in Alabama on Sports Radio 1420 The Tusk and online worldwide at 1420TheTusk.com.  Thanks!

Game 1 - #2 LSU vs. #7 South Carolina
LSU wins 5-4 in 10 innings
South Carolina dominated LSU for 8 innings, leading 4-0.  However, in the bottom of the 9th, after 2 walks, Matt Clark hit a 3-run HR to cut it to 4-3.  Then DJ LaMahieu walked and scored from first on a Ryan Schimpf bloop double down the left field line to tie the game at 4.  Then in the bottom of the 10th, LSU's Blake Dean hit a solo HR to win it for the Tigers, 5-4 in another wild LSU comeback win.  LSU came from nowhere to extend the nations longest winning streak to 17 games, 13 of those in SEC play.  LSU is now 40-17-1 and will play in the first winners bracket game on Thursday againgst the Vandy/Fla winner.  South Carolina falls to 37-20 and will play in the first elimination losers bracket game on Thursday.  Florida and Vanderbilt is next.  Check back for the story on that game.  Don't forget to listen to The Sports Breakdown, weekday mornings 7 to 9 in Alabama on Sports Radio 1420 The Tusk and online worldwide at 1420TheTusk.com.  Thanks!
